Tender Scars
Book Two of the Broken Heart Series
Ryin Di Donato has spent months hiding what was happening behind closed doors. Now she’s lost her best friend, she’s no longer at school, and keeping everyone at a distance is getting harder. The explanations she’s given don’t cover everything, and there are parts of what happened that she still hasn’t told anyone. Ryin has gotten used to keeping secrets. The problem is, some are becoming harder to keep.
Constanza Moriyadi comes back after spending the summer away, but returning doesn’t put everything back the way it was. Things with her friends are different, and so is she. She’s starting to look at some of the decisions she made before she left and wondering why she held on to certain people for as long as she did. And with David back, there are some things she can’t avoid just because she doesn’t know what she wants from him.
David Saxe returns to school after months of family therapy with his parents. For the first time, they’ve actually talked about his brother’s death, his father’s expectations, and the pressure David has been living under ever since. He wants to make his own decisions now, including what comes next for him. Being around Constanza again makes one of those decisions harder than he expected.
Zoie Belafonte is doing better, even if better doesn’t mean everything that happened is behind her. She’s learning that she doesn’t have to question every kind gesture or wait for someone’s behavior to change once she gets comfortable. Harold has been her friend without asking her for anything more, but lately, she’s starting to wonder if she wants there to be more.
Tender Scars picks up after Broken Heart Syndrome, with Ryin, Constanza, David, and Zoie dealing with what happened before and figuring out what comes next.
